Revit Structure Essentials

Revit offers many advantages over traditional CAD for structural design. However, those benefits are only available to those who understand how to use the software effectively. And although Revit is a different way of working, learning it does not have to be difficult. If you need to quickly learn how to produce structural models and projects using Revit, you will gain all these skills in our 2-day Revit Structure Essentials course.

Course content for Autodesk Revit Structure Essentials

  • Understand the Revit user interface and its basic drawing and editing tools
  • Understand parametric elements, grids, and levels and how they control the position of elements in your project
  • Link CAD files and Revit models
  • Add levels to define floor-to-floor heights
  • Add structural grids to provide locations for structural columns
  • Place structural columns, work with Revit's structural families
  • Add structural foundations and floors
  • Create steel and concrete beams, modify beam properties, create bracing
  • Create the all-important plans, elevations and sections of your model to document the details directly from your 3D model
  • Understand callout views, elevation and 3D section views
  • Create and modify basic structural schedules
  • Annotate details using detail lines, text, tags, callouts, symbols and hatch patterns
  • Bring in new sheets, place views on sheets for floor plans, elevations, sections, 3D views
  • Understand printing options and best practices
  • Produce PDFs and plotted outputs

Course Non-goals:  This course will not cover creating complex steel frames, roofing structures, and roof bracing, working with in-place families, creating piling layouts and ground beams, using Revit's Copy / Monitor feature, and working with the analytical model using Robot Structural Analysis.  For a beginner's course covering these features, please refer to our 3-day Revit Structure Essentials Plus course.
