Symetri invests in BIM for Fire Safety and acquires Bimfire Tools

Stockholm, Sweden - August 22 - Symetri, one of Europe’s leading solution providers of digital BIM, product design and lifecycle solutions, today announced it will acquire Bimfire Tools from Briab AB on 1st September. Bimfire Tools is a Revit plugin for fire safety design, which integrates fire safety information directly into the BIM process for a digital workflow.

Symetri and Briab have been collaborating since 2020 to develop a solution where fire designers/planners work digitally to secure better information flows of fire data. Now, with the announcement of the acquisition, it’s time to take the development of Bimfire Tools to the next level. Symetri sees vast opportunities to drive further improvements and create links to their own software Naviate, a plugin for Revit which has a number of specialist productivity functions targeted towards the architecture and engineering industries. Both of these areas of expertise require access to clear requirements from a fire safety perspective, so bringing this information into the design process will be a natural complement to the portfolio.

“Fire safety is an important part of the BIM-family. It will be an exciting journey to focus even further to support our customers within this area.”

- Per Carlsson Senior Director AEC Nordics, Symetri AB

Most fire safety requirements today are still handled manually with reports and sketches. Not only does this lead to increased costs, but also to a non-existing data structure for facilities management teams. By taking the leap to digital processes, both time and money will be saved during the building process and the documented tracking possibilities will increase. This will in turn lead to improved safety and sustainability during the lifetime of the building. For instance when the fire engineer can communicate requirements directly into the building model, the project-group has visibility and can act immediately to develop the model further.

“We want to express our gratitude to the team at Bimfire Tools for a fantastic effort! With Symetri we believe that the development will increase even further, and we look forward to a continued co-operation that benefits both parties.”

- Björn Wulff, CEO Briab.

The acquisition and Symetri’s investments include the following:

  • Symetri becomes owner of Bimfire Tools and will continue to drive the product development
  • All employees will become part of Symetri
  • Symetri employs one more resource with a focus on customer development
  • Symetri continues to sell Bimfire Tools in the Nordics and UK and will look at expansion opportunities. Bimfire Tools will be added into Symetri’s global offering.
  • Symetri will do its utmost to secure a swift and safe transfer for all customers.
